Photography Question

Andrew M. Laiacano

circle of photographers, is the contest real?

I recently submited a photo to this online competition and they sent me an email about a week later. The email said that they selected me as a finalist and are going to publish my photo in Photography Vibes, but I have to buy a bunch of stuff from them.
Im trying to make a name for myself in this business and I figured competitions are one good way to do so, so this could be good for me if its legit. Im just wondering if anyone else has done this before and if it really is a legit publication, or just a scam to get a butt load of money from you? Please, If anyone has any info on this let me know.

It's a scam. DO NOT send money! EVERY photograph sent in gets the same letter. If you send money, maybe in a couple years they will get enough money to put out a book. Check this QandA for other related threads. There are a bunch!

I think we should end this thread right here! There are too many other 400 response threads to start another one. Sorry to be blunt.

Yes, Im totally amazed at the number of "circle of photographers" posts there are! It should have its own category in the forums! lol They certainly bait ALOT of people. Those scammers are making lots of money. But unfortunately as long as they exist, so will these posts!

I forgot to mention- to those who use snapfish. Snapfish is a reputable online printing service. Before I started buying prints from pro sites, I used to buy from snapfish or shutterfly. I noticed not too long ago that when you go to your online album, it gives you a "enter the contest" link. Being a proud mommy, I of course (like many other mothers probably do) clicked on it. Sure enough it brought me to picture.com. I knew from these forums not to bother. But I thought about all the hundreds- maybe thousands of people who wouldn't know not to enter that contest. And seeing how its in the snapfish site, people will probably assume its safe.

I, too, got sucked into the whole contest thing. And I won, imagine that! But lots of you will be glad to know that if you click on the place order or whatever it is- a screen pops up that says this web site cannot accept money. Yeah, I was actually about to order. But I was so excited I guess I should've known better. I know better now though.
