Recommended lenses for Promaster 2500PK Super SLR? When I started my film class we needed a fully manual film camera, so I quick ran out to the closest photography shop and this was the only one they had, a Promaster 2500PK Super SLR. I plan to use it for macro and professional portrait work and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend me any great lenses for my needs. I've been itching to shoot in both color and B&W. Should be known that I usually shoot in natural light but I've been known to set up a few clamp lights for portrait work.

Promaster 2500PK Super uses the Pentax K-mount for lenses. The 50mm f/1.7 that comes with the camera should be pretty good despite its very low cost. The camera also comes in a kit with a 28-70mm f/3.4 - 4.8 zoom lens, I don't know anything about it. Otherwise, look used for manual focus Pentax K lenses. There are many that are very good, here is a good resource: http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/. Most Pentax autofocus lenses will fit and work on the camera, except for (a) the DA series which are intended for the smaller sensor of the Pentax digital SLRs, and (b) the FA-J series which do not have an aperture ring and the Promaster camera does not have controls to set the lens aperture.

Yeah, I saw that site on google. I was sort of hoping someone could tell me what lens they use that they really love the best. My cam didn't come with a 8-70mm f/3.4 - 4.8 zoom lens, I didn't buy that one. I gotta say I really hate the 50mm f/1.7 lens. It frustrates me because I can't do macro work at all.

Don't worry, Kayleigh. The 50 has its place and is a very fast lens, great for low light work. As to macro, you're gonna have to shell out a wee little more. You definitely want a good zoom range, 28-70 being a case in point. A great source for these lenses is eBay. Don't be afraid of it. It can be your best friend. Especially around tax time. You might be able to pick up a 28-200 macro zoom, or some such. Vivitar made them for the Minolta MD mount lenses. There oughtta be one out there for the K. Good luck and have fun and post any questions here for prompt and concise answering. Thank you
