Acquired an old Canon camera I just recently acquired a Canon AF-1 Program 35mm film camera. I was just wanting to know what caliber of camera I have. Thanks!

If you mean the AE-1, It is a great camera. It became the most popular camera ever made when it was new. It is a great camera for learning about photography (other than not having immediate feedback as with digital)

If you don't have the instruction manual, it's available at http://www.canonfd.com/choose.htm. Descriptions and more information is available at http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/SLRs/index.htm.

Mike, you were right. It is the AE-1. Thanks both of you for the feedback!

If it's the AE-1 Program, you have a bright viewfinder that puts more expensive cameras to shame. In the learning process, however, leave the Program mode OFF. Read up on the relationship between aperture and shutter speed as you learn.

Doug, It is the AE-1 Program. Thanks for the advice, one of the reasons I decided to hold onto it was because of what you just said. I have a digital camera that allows some manual settings but the opportunity to learn that this camera offered was terrific. I have learned the basics of the relationship but any pointers you could offer would not fall on deaf ears. Thanks again!

Chris, read up on Ansel Adams' books 'The Camera' and 'The Negative' for some good exposure unformation. I also have some good getting started articles on my website you might check out if you have the time. Thanks
