Vacation I am starting to plan a trip to Olympic National Park for next Summer. Can be anywhere through mid July to second week of September. I know they get alot of rain. We like to stay in the park if possible and probably will have to maybe move from one area to another since it is so large. Will have approximately 10 days and we like to hike. We don't want to miss any must see attractions. If you have any information that is helpful would appreciate it. Martha Mazon was so helpful planning our past trip to San Franscico. Thanks

The beaches have always been my favorite part of the park, Tammy. Look up beaches in Olympic NP to get a feel for them. And you will have to hike to each of them, but it will be a short hike. I never did get to Hoh Rain Forest, but have seen gorgeous pictures of it. It looks like it would be best if there is a wet spring, which used to be the norm for the northwest, but not always the case now! No matter where you go up there, Tammy, you will find beauty. I spent 64 years up there, my body just couldn’t take the cold wet winters any more. Hope this is helpful, and hope you enjoy the peninsula!

I’m heading up to Washington next Monday to spend some time with my kids. My daughter and son in-law may have more current info on the park . If they do I’ll let you know.

Tammy, I will admit that Olympic National Park is not a favorite but I always use Robert Hitchman's Photograph America newsletters when I travel. They are great resource for photographers. I suggest using part of your vacation to visit Mt. Rainer National Park as well. The wildflowers are gorgeous in early August, the mountain is beautiful and the hiking is good. Also, a trip to Columbia River Gorge on the border of Washington and Oregon is also worth it for a portion of your trip. I plan on heading to your state of West Virginia this October. Leslie McLain

If you really want to see the rain forest I would plan a trip in June as by August/September the forest is dried out and not attractive.
