September Countdown Thread

It is great to see the forum up and running again. Did you miss the Countdown Thread? Please take some time read through how this forum works.
There are so many fabulous photo posted on BP. So many very inspiring works of time and talent. I like this thread because its purpose is for each of us to show case your individual photo that you believe is your best or that you feel is most representative of your inner self. So... let's see your personal best!
*If you are a regular here you know what to do.
**If you are new to this thread, take some time to read our helpful hints below and join in the fun.
*** If you found yourself here because you are lost.... Hmmm.., Don't worry, this is not the Hotel California, you can escape!
Some helpful hints for attaching photos into a BP Forum Thread, if you're unfamiliar with the process:
1) Sign into BP. IF YOU HAVEN'T entered the Contest for today, you can use the "Photo ID" method to pull an existing image (from your Member Center) into your reply here.
a. Jot down the PhotoID # of the photo you wish to share. To determine your PhotoID, go to the little Pancakes icon, then click “My Photos”, then “Manage/Enter.” The PhotoID is right below the number.
b. Go to the Countdown Contest thread. Click “Respond” at the bottom of the page.
c. Type in whatever you wish; e.g., “Here’s my Fav image for the month.”
d. Click the “Select” button below the text input box, and select “1.” Toggle on “Notify” box if you wish to be notified. Click “Submit.”
e. The Image Uploader appears. On the right-hand side, you’ll see an input box for the PhotoID (from step 1a). Type it in then click “submit your photo.” Then, return to the forum thread and you’ll see your photo.
2) IF YOU HAVE ALREADY entered the Contest for today, you can't use the Photo ID method *today*. Either wait until tomorrow to reply here first, or upload a copy of the image (from your PC) and attach to this thread. This produces a duplicate image in your Member Center; however, you don't have to make that duplicate visible in your Gallery.
3) If you're uploading a duplicate, I suggest titling it "For Forum" so it stands out in your Member Center, for easier housecleaning later on. This can also help nudge BP viewers to go find the original image in your gallery, if they want to leave a comment. Likewise, if you want to add a comment to a photo seen here, first try to tell if it is a duplicate upload. As a courtesy, try to find the original image in the member's gallery and leave your comment there instead of on the duplicate... which may one day be deleted.

	Kaleidoscopic Looking up, a fish-eye capture of inside of the Süleymaniye Mosque which is an Ottoman imperial mosque located on the Third Hill of Istanbul, Turkey. It has an impressive main dome which is 174 feet high (almost as tall as a 15 story building) having a diameter of 86.9 feet, which is half its height. The tri-circular massive chandelier is held with many long wires all of which converge to the center of the Dome ceiling. Usman M. Bajwa

	Salzburg Domes and cupolas capping three churches (including the cathedral's set of three cross-and-sphere-topped peaks) seen above the rooftops of Salzburg, Austria. This composition was inspired by the city as it appears behind Maria and the children, learning “Do Re Mi” in “The Sound of Music,” a prime motivator for my visit to Salzburg. 9/19 Finalist - ManMade Chris Budny

Not many entries in Sept., and I love them all (from my trip to Austria!) But this one is probably my favorite - mainly because I wanted this specific shot after seeing the possibilities for it, in the distance behind Maria's head in a scene from "The Sound of Music"; and then I had to do some online digging to find out how to get this alignment of churches in Salzburg before I got over there. A website claiming to list ALL the filming locations for the movie had this location listed and I was thrilled -- but shortly before my visit I discovered that list was actually wrong for this scene -- thanks to the marvels of Google Earth! I found the correct location with Google Earth mapping, about half a mile away from the website's stated location. (Of course, while in Salzburg after this shot, I took a T.S.O.M. bus tour where the guide cheerfully pointed out the exact location I'd struggled to uncover! :)

It looks like email notices are not working properly - so be sure to check your entries for Sept. in your Member Center -- you may have a finalist there, but no email telling you so! That's how I found mine!

Hi Nikki - yeah, nothing hit my spam. Funny thing is I get the daily POTD emails. But no contest emails for Sept., and never any "comment on your photo" notices, since the major website reprogramming began...

Exactly the same for me, Chris. I get the daily POTD emails, but nothing else. No notification of SF, finalist, or winner, and no notification of comments on my photos.

Regarding email...I get all notices in my Yahoo email except when someone comments on one of my photos. Only Yahoo, not BP message here on the site. I don't know if it will make any difference, but a long time ago I set up an in-box folder and email rule that tells Yahoo to put any incoming messages from BP in that folder. It's pretty easy to do, again not sure if it will help everyone ... All types of email have a designated folder and rule set up. It's worth a try!

Hi Ann; unfortunately in my particular case, the BP emails (Notice of new comment, Notice of Finalist, etc) aren't making it to my Comcast email address at all, where I could take action or develop a mail-routing rule. (I use rules a lot at my office email!) Whether Comcast is rejecting them upfront, or Comcast is considering them spam (but still not placing them in my spam folder) they just don't come to me at all anymore, so I can't use a rule to route the email to a dedicated folder.
Jim did confirm at one point recently, he uses a different service to send the daily POTD email vs all the BP "website" notice emails that normally go out -- I receive those POTD emails successfully.
It is annoying, since the BP email notices worked to my Comcast email for many, many years prior to this website rebuilding project. (And as recently as the August contest results, in which I did successfully receive the BP notice emails.) But member comments on my photos have not triggered a notice email to reach me successfully, for probably 6 months now.
