transferring photos I am upgrading from an older mac laptop to a new one. The store offered to transfer my photos. I've heard and read stories of this turning into a huge mess. Anyone have any experience? Thank you.

I don't know anything about stores making a mess when transferring photos but don't you back up your pictures yourself? I have all of my pictures on an external drive so it is easy to plug the drive into another computer and then load them onto the new computer. If you're not currently using an external drive I strongly suggest it. The price of a drive will be well worth the expense if something should happen to your computer.

Thanks, Irene. I do back up my computer, but have never needed to transfer any files before. I didn't know it was so easy.

Here's another 2 cents' worth - it's a good idea to back up your photos in a third place (a second portable hard drive, on DVDs, in the Cloud, etc.) I've had not one, but two portable hard drives fail - both to the extent that the photos were unrecoverable. Luckily, most I'd stored elsewhere, but I did lose a significant bunch with one of the crashes. Better safe than sorry!
