Aaron, just submit it again from your Manage/Enter page and it will update the category on the original date entered. Previously you had to do this before you had entered an image for the day, but I don't think this is true anymore.

Martha's right, Aaron. No need to delete. Just go to Manage, drop down the categories under "enter the contest", and pick your new category. I didn't realize you could do it even if you'd already entered for the day.

Mary, you hit the nail on the head! I used to use badges as a way to study good photos so I could learn. I still study the photos to learn - but I study the ones I really like, and don't worry so much about the badges. I'm not so sure they (the badges) mean much anymore. Some really great photos get passed over, and some really not-so-great (to my eyes) get badges. But - I enjoy seeing everyone's work, and that's what matters to me.

Over night I've picked up 7 EP's for a total of 13 for the month of March! I haven't received this many EP's in one month in forever! I'm grateful!

Good going Joannie. My participation on BP is quite sporadic; I had no February entries. For March I got an EFP on 5 of my 6 entries during the first pass through. In January I got a second place win on a photo that did not get an EFP during the first pass so I tells me that getting an immediate EFP does not necessarily give a photo a better chance of moving on.

BP is in an excellent position. Right now March EPs are almost complete (at least the first round). Looks like they have judged up through the 30th. Now if they choose to, they could complete March and begin the second round which usually takes about a week leaving them plenty of time to do April before going on hiatus to do the in-depth judging that results in the SFs, Finalists, and Winners at the end of the month.

Looks like they finished March today (maybe just the first round). If they are planning to do a second round. I hope they jump right in and do it now so they have maximum time to complete March but we will see. Hope you got more more EPs today.

Hi Brenda, It sounds like you are new to BP so welcome. I hope you have a great experience. Now to your question. The short answer is "yes." Let me explain. On photos that you enter into the competition, the first round of "winning" is the EP. If you receive an EP, it continues through the process. If no EP then, it's out of the competition for that month. You can re-enter at a later date (next month or later) and try again. I have often had photos not accepted the first time. For the EP's accepted, BP then has a private process to whittle the photos down to a smaller amount and then makes the remaining ones public when they release Staff Favorites. Then they reduce the photos again by picking the finalists, and ultimately at the end of the month, the last round is to pick and post the winners. Good luck to you as you enter photos into the contest. Perhaps we'll see a winner from you soon.

Brenda, to piggy back on Bill's response....after the month is over, BP goes back through the first round of contest entries and hands out some more EPs. Basically, it's a 2nd pass through. Some people delete non EPs from their gallery. I'd recommend you NOT do this until BP finishes their 2nd pass through, which for March would probably occur in the next couple of weeks. Bill does a great job keeping everyone updated on the EP process so be sure to keep watching this thread.

Ken, thanks for mentioning the 2nd round. Although let me make one amendment to your statement. The way you stated it, one could think that they do the second round after the months contest. I think you meant that sometime after they appear to have concluded the first round, they often have a 2nd round before actually moving on to their private process. Actually I believe they started that second round already. We won't really know when it ends until people note that new EPs have been granted for the last day of the month.

Brenda, as far as I can tell badges don't mean much because Mary and Pat both eloquently stated that no one has any idea who the judges and I agree. You enjoy other peoples' work because you like and don't worry about what "they" think about it. It took five years before I got my first second place win and has taken me that long to finally heed my own advice.

I'm new to this site, my 2nd month. I'm a seasoned enough photographer to know that judging can and will always be subjective. However what has surprised me has been the significant number of photos that should never have made it past the initial round due to basic technical things like not sharp, not highlight or shadow detail, shooting in mid day light, cropping out feet, arms etc, blown out highlights, where some really high quality work goes completely unnoticed. All things considered, I've done okay so far in March having 2 make finals, 2 making 1st cut and 2 not getting a second look. But, I've followed much of the competitions close enough to realize that whoever these 'unknown' judges are have already lost my vote of confidence. Also, it kind of frustrates me (and this may get me into trouble) that they treat photographing animals in a zoo the same as wildlife photography, where animals are in no way captive. It would also be nice if there were actually an actual category for sports and for product photography, is it is difficult to really classify them in people or macro. Nice to meet you all, and good luck to you in the Finals for March.

I have been frustrated in the past but only with my own work. There were some photos that I felt were good and were overlooked. Upon resubmitting, most were picked up. The photo contest will never be perfect but I am glad that there is a place to enter on a monthly basis. Looking at the finalists and especially the winners, I would have to say that they are stunning photographs, yours included. This contest has helped me improve as a photographer and even with the inevitable frustrations, I am glad I have a place to post my photos and compete.

Well said Harriet. I like BP because it is a family friendly site and the wonderful people who post here. Have you considered National Geographic? I know of one outstanding photographer from here who has made The Daily Dozen. I think there are some outstanding zoo photos on this site. I'm especially blown away by how many truly spectacular bird photographers there are out there. My frustration is when truly great photos are being overlooked and instead photos that are not of adequate quality are chosen. Usually by the time the choose a winner, quality photos are chosen. Regarding my own images, I'm just enjoying seeing what brings joy to others. That is why I take photos.
