Some helpful hints for attaching photos into a BP Forum Thread, if you're unfamiliar with the process: 1) Sign into BP. IF YOU HAVEN'T entered the Contest for today, you can use the "Photo ID" method to pull an existing image (from your Member Center) into your reply here. a. Jot down the PhotoID # of the photo you wish to share. To determine your PhotoID, go to the little Pancakes icon, then click “My Photos”, then “Manage/Enter.” The PhotoID is right below the number. b. Go to the Countdown Contest thread. Click “Respond” at the bottom of the page. c. Type in whatever you wish; e.g., “Here’s my Fav image for the month.” d. Click the “Select” button below the text input box, and select “1.” Toggle on “Notify” box if you wish to be notified. Click “Submit.” e. The Image Uploader appears. On the right-hand side, you’ll see an input box for the PhotoID (from step 1a). Type it in then click “submit your photo.” Then, return to the forum thread and you’ll see your photo. 2) IF YOU HAVE ALREADY entered the Contest for today, you can't use the Photo ID method *today*. Either wait until tomorrow to reply here first, or upload a copy of the image (from your PC) and attach to this thread. This produces a duplicate image in your Member Center; however, you don't have to make that duplicate visible in your Gallery. 3) If you're uploading a duplicate, I suggest titling it "For Forum" so it stands out in your Member Center, for easier housecleaning later on. This can also help nudge BP viewers to go find the original image in your gallery, if they want to leave a comment. Likewise, if you want to add a comment to a photo seen here, first try to tell if it is a duplicate upload. As a courtesy, try to find the original image in the member's gallery and leave your comment there instead of on the duplicate... which may one day be deleted.

Nikki and Anita, welcome aboard! Nikki, I remember this photo…it’s sure to be a winner and has a magical look to it. I like the white “whites” of the sand and the orangish mountains and clouds. I also like your comp on the cat photo. I think the month of December was the lowest EP rate I’ve seen, less than 40% I bet. Anita, you captured the pelican perfectly…sharp focus and full frame. Hi Jill and Geoff, thanks for joining the countdown thread! Jill, I like both your favs…nice simple fence line with moody sky, and the Nubble with snow effects looks like a perfect Christmas card. Both are strong candidates for SF! Geoff, congrats on your 4 EPs. You’re right…the EP rate was much lower in December as compared to other months. And that would be great if you could get a SF on your Christmas ornament shot. I like how it’s composed and the reflections in it. Fingers crossed for SF!

Well. we didn't get the SFs yesterday. So if BP is to make the winners deadline (the one they set for last day of the month), then today they release everything. I do recall at least one occasion when they were a few days late posting the winners. However, by and large they post them by deadline. There is so much involved in running an online system and mostly we never see or know what has to be done to make deadline on so many things. Given that, they do a great job at making the contest deadlines as well as keeping all systems working.

Curious about something. I had 2 Staff Favs that I received for which I received no email announcement. Have any of you ever had one that didn't get an email announcement? I triple checked and they both received the badge today. Hope they were evaluated as a contender for a finalist spot. Obviously they didn't make it (or were overlooked) or I wouldn't be asking.

Bill, I'm pretty confident that the SF badge confirms it got a SF, versus e-mail notification. BP has been having problems with e-mail notifications, at least for POTDs, forum replies, etc. Peggy, historically the POTDs have not fared well with finalists or golds. I checked the last 7 POTDs awarded in December, and 5 had an EP, one was gold, and the other was Nikki's finalist (that could still make gold). All POTDs come from contest entries, and the five that only retained an EP were uploaded to the contest in December.

Thanks Ken. I'm not questioning if they were selected. That I'm sure of. My question is could they be overlooked as they didn't get emails as the others did? I guess my concern was do the SFs have to be manually processed in some way (like dragged to a folder) for emails to be auto generated and for additional scrutiny to occur. I don't know the process, but they are somehow collected for the next round. If other people had experienced the email oversight AND still had photos move on, I'd feel more comfortable. I didn't read your email as saying that. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if they are included in the final listing of SFs whenever that comes out. If for some reason they aren't there, I think that there was a processing step missed and that they were overlooked as a result of that. If they are there, then I won't think that.

Hey Peggy - first round of drinks on me -- no SF's here either (though, I only had 4 EP's in play, so there was only a slim chance to start with.) Best of luck to the Finalists, for gold -- the funny thing with so few Finalists (239) -- almost half of the finalists will get gold, since there are 111 golds to hand out.
