Reducing pixel/picture size

I have taken digital pics and downloaded to my pc. I want to upload these images to a website but cannot because they say the image size is too big. so many pixels by so many pixels. Can I reduce these images and if so, how. I have tried compressing them (zip) but this hasn't worked. Why are the files so large to begin with? They are jpg images/files. Thanx!

  Hi Mike,

You need a special program that allows you to resize the image. Example of such a image editing program include Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, and many others (Picture It, Photo Draw, etc. etc. etc).

You should be able to find an entry level one for around $50 to $100.

I highly recommend Photoshop Elements - it sells for under $100.
