Dark semicircle in image I own a EOS 300 + Sigma 28-200. In the 5"x7" photos, on the 7" side in the centre I see a dark semicircle, say 2 cm diametre and fading in side the photo. I found following combinations, -It occures when I use flash. Any guasses?

Does it occur at all focal lengths or just at wide angles? It could be that your flash doesn't spread the light enough to cover 28mm.

Are you using the built-in flash above the lens? Maybe the lens is so big as to be casting a shadow. An external flash on a bracket off to the side may not cast that shadow. If you use flash with the wide-angle a lot (groups, weddings), I'd get a 28 prime lens, and an external flash that will, as Jeff says, spread the light.

Thanks Friends for responding, It occurs only just at wide angles which I noticed now. And I use built-in flash. If it is the flash problem then what is the way out ? How can an external flash help in avoiding this problem, as the bracket is just near built-in flash in Eos. If the way out is only to get an external flash Can you recommend a good flash for Eos 300? Thanks

the built-in flash is quite close to the lens axis and hence its light can get blocked by the larger (in diameter) lenses like the one you have. this can be solved using an external flash. it gets raised quite above the lens axis reducing such possibilities as well as red-eye.
