Photography Question

Finaly got and iMac!

I finaly got myself the 21.5" iMac yesterday! now the question is do I really need to calibrate with Spyder 3 Pro? since the screen is glossy, I am not sure if it will work fine. Anyone used the Spyder 3 Pro with the new iMac screen? Thanks.

I don't have the Spyder Pro, but use ColorMunki. I still have to calibrate my monitor and printer for every kind of paper I use. If you don't print, you may still have to calibrate your monitor, since the Macs are usually more saturated than your average monitor, and you'll want to calibrate for the web if you are going to post your photos. If it is different for Spyder Pro, I hope you get some answers.

Doesn't that screen look amazing, Karim? They are just beautiful devices...
I do think you should still calibrate. I don't believe the calibration devices have any issues with glossy screens, from what I've read, but I certainly haven't read up on every calibrator out there.
Even running the custom calibration in Mac's Settings can make quite a difference (despite how good the display looks, right out of the box.)

  Congratulations Karim,
You will love it :) I use Spyder2 Pro (the same one I bought in 2006) and it works fine on my iMac.

Thank you all for your replies. The screen looks so good without calibration!!! Anyway, I have ordered the Spyder 3 Pro, should get it next week.

Just want to add my 2 cents. I don't have a Mac but I have a new Dell XPS Studio 16 with a very glossy screen. I was having trouble getting my printer's output to look like the colors on my screen so I HAD to calibrate. But the Spyder3 Pro's suction cups wouldn't hold the device on my screen. I had to hold it there with my thumb for the entire 7 minutes or so. But first I had to start over several times because the suction didn't work.

You may encounter the same problem!

  Hi Michelle

I received the Spyder 3 Pro last week and it did work perfectly. It did hold well on the display. I did not use the cup provided, however, I used the black weight included Spyder itself.
