The Hen's House

At the Hen's House
At the Hen's House
I found this interesting, old, and very run-down house on a recent drive across central Nebraska. I loved the shadow patterns and, of course, the red -- perspectives were very limited because of dense undergrowth. I didn't get any one that I really liked, and they all lacked punch. I put them into a critique group, distilled the suggestions, and came up with a composite of two house shots (roof from the vertical layered over the horizontal and then extended at the sides with cloning) plus a rooster photo from my archives. I'm putting the three original components of this final image into the discussion.

So well done, Nikki! Completely convincing; would have been hard to guess it was 3 images if you hadn't explained the process... terrific work!

I think this is an extremely well done and perfectly true to life composite. Too, the subject itself holds the interest, with the great tree shadows, framing, elements, and textures.

Your PS skills and technical expertise is truly amazing and always impressive, Nikki! I learn so much from reading your critiques and discussions. This is a wonderful composite - all the right components came together beautifully. What I like about it is that it still looks totally natural. Wonderful job!

LOLOL, Mel. It is not you. I just can't decide. I know it's a rooster but I really like the idea of "hen's house" -- so much better than rooster's house LOL So I finally settled for "at" to imply that he is visiting?

Your skillfull combination of elements and expert use of filters created a wonderful image Nikki.

I would never guess that the chicken had not been in the original photo.
