About Karen Rosenblum
My interest was sparked as a little girl when my dad gave me his old Pentax, and it grew as I used to watch my uncle develop his B&W images in the darkroom. Since then I've been hooked and have always had a point-and-shoot with me. But I didn't get 100% serious about photography until I switched to digital years ago and bought my first Nikon dSLR. I quickly upgraded from the Nikon D80 to the D300, and now I use the amazing D3s, with the D300 as my 2nd/spare camera body. Once I rediscovered my passion (did I ever truly lose it?), it has never left me, and the fire just keeps growing.
At this time, my photographic interests include nature (including land/seascapes, wildlife, flora, and everything else found in the natural world), macro & close-ups, B&W, casual/candid portraiture (esp. kids and elders), urban street scenes, really anything that catches my eye. I've been hired for many photo projects, family and individual portraits, fine-art rendering of clients' images, and have sold several of my own.
When I make an image, I have great patience for waiting for the right light and composition so that it conveys the emotion that I feel at the time, hoping that the viewer will want to jump into the photo and "be there." I try to "tell the story" with passion, emotion, and honesty. I am willing to contort myself into any position, take risks, and wait as long as I have to, to get the "money shot." I love to engage my portrait clients - I'm lucky in that they become comfortable with both me and the camera rather quickly, and we get to know each other during pre-session testing, and that has made for beautiful, poignant images. This is what I love to do! This is all I WANT to do! I've met many photographers so far, many of them nationally- and internationally-known, and have studied their work. I want to absorb all their knowledge and expertise. But, like they did, I have to do it step-by-step, and I'm willing to put in the time and practice. And I'm loving every minute.
