The Pole House
Uploaded: May 28, 2007 14:40:32
The Pole House at Fairhaven near the start of the Great Ocean Road is one Australia's most easily recognizable and iconic homes. Built in 1978 by architect/engineer Frank Dixon it is one of the few survivors of the 1983 Ash Wednesday bushfires. It sits perched on a concrete pole about 40 meters above the beach at Fairhaven and offers unsurpassed and stunning views along the ocean from Airey's Inlet to Lorne.
This is a HDR image created from a single RAW file with a fair bit of post-processing.
Nikon D50 18-200mm VR lens.

Peter, I noticed you have two finalists in the category of travel and place (maybe more?) so congratulations on all you receive! :) I looked through your gallery the other day, and can't remember if I commented or not (old age has firmly set in) but this is one of my top favorites in your gallery--the colors, tones, composition and the subject are all terrific. So, congratulations again and here's hoping for a gold for you! #4448245Peter R. Hammer June 27, 2007
Thanks for the lovely comments Kristen, Sylvia and Colleen. Colleen I only have 2 finalists this month so you saw both of them. #4450248Renee Doyle July 24, 2007
Fantastic capture of this icon Peter! Belated but big congrats on this wonderful finalist!Jennifer A. Lambert September 18, 2007
Spectacular !! Did you use a filter or change the colors with PS filters ? Either way WHAT A SHOT !!Peter R. Hammer September 18, 2007
Thanks Jennifer. This was made from a single raw file using a HDR program. That can give this sort of colour effect if you manipulate the controls appropriately. #4809702Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
