Moon Reflecting [69365 Nature & Landscapes ]

I was shooting sunrise at Banner Lakes SWA on the high plains northeast of Denver. I got there about half an hour before sunrise, and had a lot of fun shooting as the sun poked it's head above the horizon. After shooting into the sunrise, getting the glowing reflections, I moved to the east side of the lake, with the sun at my back. I saw the setting moon reflected in the water, and knew I had to find this shot. I set up my tripod, and focused in on the reeds, with the moon reflected next to them, and a small band of clouds reflected above. Taken about half an hour after sunrise, f27, 1/6 shuttter speed, Canon 10D, with a Canon 70-210mm, at 140mm.

Personally, I like the way the reeds were reflecting in the water. The moon part didn't do much for me, but then again, YOUR picture is not about doing great things for ME. LOL!I guess since the reeds were in focus and had such great clarity, my eyes kept looking at them, and it seemed as if the moon was out of place.
The colors of the water around the reeds was so pretty and sharp...I think you could easily have made a picture of just that, the reeds and reflections.
So for all it's worth, there's my opinion! ; )

I like the inclusion of the reflected moon. This helps to make the image more unique.Bob

THis is a really good capture! The only thing is that its a bit confusing when you first look at the picture as to what it is, you get the reeds, but the moon reflection is a bit confusing. But thats just my oppinion, great shot though!-Collette- #2205188

David,I like the confusion caused by the moon. I makes you look twice (or more) to understand what is going on.
On my monitor, it seems that the image could use a little more contrast between the water and the reeds. Maybe you could enlarge the moon to make is a little more important in the image and it might strengthen the composition to crop a little off the bottom, just above where the blue of the water shows through the reeds. I found that my eyes kept wandering down to that spot.
I read your contributions on the "Critique?" question in the Q&A, so I wonder if this is helpful? It's the first critique I've done.

For my eyes, I really get lost in what is reflection and what is not. Is it possible that the water is almost too still? It would be interesting to see what a small ripple in the water would do. That being said, I really do like the picture. It really draws your eyes and mind. #2213940David A. Bliss December 22, 2005
Teri, that was wonderful! Every view and opinion is important, it gives us a different way to look at things that we might not have seen ourselves. Sometimes we get so caught up in what we see that we can't see anything else.Stuart, thank you also for your review! One thing I really liked about this shot was that it was confusing, and challenged the mind. Everything except the reeds are reflections, the moon, the clouds, and obviously, the reflections of the reeds.
Collette, thank you also!
I will have fun reworking this with all the new ideas! #2215257
