Hi Shea,This little guy was perched near the feeder and I was able to get within just a few feet away because he was protecting his turf from several other hummingbirds and he didn't want to give up his vantage point. I shot this with a 300mm lens at 300mm, f/8, 1/60 sec. with the Canon Digital Rebel. Thanks for commenting. #1816439

Colorful crisp shot. A beauty! #1818496Kathy L. Pollick September 09, 2005
Very pretty shot. I have another "How did you do that" question.... why is there no background in the shot? I'm assuming you took the picture outside. Did you erase the bg in ps? I've seen a lot of shots with no apparent bg's & wondered if they were altered in some way. #1818512John Snider September 09, 2005
Hi Kathy P.I didn't alter the b.g. at all with this shot, it is the color of the street that was behind the little hummer. I was very close so I was basically using the macro focus of my 300mm lens which causes a very limited DOF and blurs everything that is not in focus. Thanks for the inquiry and thanks Guy and Sanjeev for the nice comments. #1818866
