Jewel Beetle from Arizona

Bob, where do you get all these critters?! This is really colorful--a strong shot. I don't much like the glare on the bug, though. This bug looks a bit "sleepy" too. Otherwise, the comp and color are fabuloso. Nice work. #7055Robert Jensen July 31, 2002
Piper,Thanks for your comments. I am a trained entomologist and so know where to find them. This beetle is common in July and into August in much of the mountain areas of Arizona. I kept the glare to a minimum, but wanted to show some, because this beetle is actually quite metallic and brilliant when you are holding it in the sunlight.

Oh, geez--we have bug man among us! : ) I see what you mean about the glare. I think he looks pretty metallic with or without the highlights. Just my opinion--what do I know about bugs? Not a whole helluva lot, and I'm happy to leave that to you. #10425bob garas August 01, 2002
