Intimidation...
Uploaded: July 20, 2005 19:03:34
This white-breasted nuthatch was trying to intimidate a bird into leaving the feeder below him. It didn't work.
This photo was taken about half an hour after the sunset, so I had no choice but to use a high iso (for a decent shutter speed) and a flash (to give enough light for a proper exposure).
Taken with my Sigma 80-400mm EX OS: 1/100s f/7.1 at 400.0mm iso1600 with Flash.

Now this is a different bird shot! Very cool! I love the clearly articulated wings. #1615867Bill K. Ko July 20, 2005
Thanks, Karacan and Guy, for taking the time to comment on my photo! It was very interesting to watch the nuthatch displaying like that, trying to look as big and menacing as he could. :) #1615949Tonya R. Boles July 21, 2005

Now this is really a great cpture.Bill K. Ko August 24, 2005
Thanks, again, Dan! Most of my nuthatch photos are pretty static - they're just clinging to the side of a tree, but I thought this one was special enough to enter into the contest, and I guess the judges thought similarly, at least this time. :) #1763543Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
