For PG 101 Ancient/Antique theme
Both Herculaneum and Pompeii were destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Because it was farther away, Herculaneum was affected a bit later and covered by a much deeper pyroclastic layer. This preserved more of the buildings. The wealthy house here has stunning mosaics and a "grotto" dedicated to "nymphs.

Just imagine what it looked like before the volcano erupted. Such beauty is only imaginable. You've caught the remains quite wonderfully. #11650849Terry A. Stoa October 22, 2017

Congratulations, Wally! What a beautiful place this must have been in it's day. Just incredible how it's been preserved all these years. #11651208Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
