Intricate Design [Contest Winner Pool October 2007 ]
Uploaded: October 28, 2007 10:40:07
F4.8, 1/30, ISO 250, 33mm, taken using natural light at the Heritage Museum in Largo, FL. Original image except for sharpening & cloning out the garage background in the upper right corner.
The man playing the accordian (also in gallery) asked if I would put his picture on the Internet. When I said yes, he hugged me. I gave him a business card with my gallery address, so I hope he is able to see this. He shared some information about playing the accordian and even allowed Justin to hold it and try it out. I want to thank him for allowing me to take this and for his patience and kindness.

Wow! A great shot! I love the details, colors, light & composition! #772919Joan Powell October 28, 2007
Excellent capture ,great comp ! But I want to know if he played a Polka for you ?? #4995531Carol Teal October 28, 2007
Thank you so much Tiia and Joan for your kind comments. Joan, he asked me if I would dance and I said no, so I guess he saved the polka for someone else! :)Mike, I yanked the other one off just as you posted I guess. They always look different once I post them and I often yank it off (hopefully quickly)and do something else. :) Thank you for your kind comment!

Yes! When I saw the full shot, my eyes went IMMEDIATELY to the accordian and thought how perfect a close crop would be! PERFECTION, Carol! LOVE it! #4995803Susan Weisensel October 28, 2007

FABULOUS image Carol!!!!!! WONDERFUL details & colors!!!!!! #4996842Carol Teal October 28, 2007
Pat, Susan, Cindy and Angela, I truly appreciate your kind and encouraging words! Pat, I just had to get a close-up of this beautiful instrument. I can't say I have ever seen an accordian in real life, much less had the pleasure of hearing someone play one. #4997327Sherry Sturgis October 29, 2007
Carol, so glad you got a close-up! It's a magnificant capture!!!! The colors and details are outstanding! Nice work! #4999835Heather Thorsen October 29, 2007

SuSana and Jennifer, thank you for your support and kind comments!Mr. Meyers stopped in today and saw himself on the Internet! He emailed me via the contact button and thanked me for posting the photos and told me he would see us next year.
And Mr. Meyers, if you stop in again and read this, I tried to email you back but it said I was not on your list of people from whom you accept email. #5012756

This is the most ornate and colorful Italian Diatonic (button instead of keys) accordion I have ever seen! I think only the handcrafted Italian melodeon versions have this colorful pattern design in the bellow. This beauty is old and custom crafted and probably worth $6 to $8k USD. I don't know if you realize how wonderful of a find this was Carol! You can't obtain an accordion like that if you looked a lifetime. That is very touching that posting his picture would mean that much. You both shared a gift of giving that day :) #5017026Carol Teal November 01, 2007
Steven, thank you so much for your kind comment and for all the info about this beautiful instrument! I really love the colorful pattern in the bellow (which I didn't realize it was called that). I am totally clueless when it comes to accordians (and most musical instruments really because while I love music, I can't sing and have never learned to play anything). I plan to go back next year to see (and hear) Mr Meyers again! #5017071Colleen Farrell November 08, 2007
This is sooo cool, Carol! I really like that you have his hand in the photo, too. There was a big accordion festival near us this summer, and I went hoping to get some good photos--no luck. I love the story that goes with your photos--so sweet! #5047735Robert Baer November 15, 2007
this is a beautiful image. I love the composition, the subject and the colors. #5077075Carol Teal November 15, 2007
Thank you so much for your kind comments, Colleen and Justin!! Colleen, sorry you didn't have any luck at the accordian festival; maybe you can go again next year! #5077435Crystal L. Craig November 15, 2007
Oh Carol, what a wonderfully nostalgic capture! The craftsmanship in the details are amazing, wonderfully energetic and clean composition, I love this! #5079590Nikki McDonald November 20, 2007
I notice that Colleen likes the inclusion of his hands, too--of course my eye went first to the wonderful lines, then the bold colors and intricate designs, but then they came to rest on his right hand on the buttons. Including that and the information about when and where you took this photo really brings the capture to life. Perhaps Mr. Meyers will contact you again and you can send him a print--I'm sure he would prize it. Congrats on the EP and it's no wonder you picked this as your October favorite for the C&C thread. I'll be rooting for it. #5101858Susan M. Smith November 20, 2007
