Technically this is one of my strongest shots. However I badly broke a rule. My verticals cross my horizontals. charlie Waite would not be impressed. I only noticed it after I got home. I knew travelling to Venice this was the shot I wanted to take for this competition. So it was really rewarding to see my early start winning first place here.

John, I love the softness to this gorgeous image. Awesome details. #4155542Colleen Farrell May 20, 2007
This is gorgeous, John! I love the colors, and the softness of the boats in the foreground. I saw this in the C&C thread and wanted to let you know how much I like it. My fingers are crossed for you for the contest! #4304673Nikki McDonald May 20, 2007
Like Colleen I saw this in the C&C thread, John, and came over to see it in your gallery. It is just lovely. For me, there is no more beautiful color combination than the mauve pinks and greyed aquas you have here. I think your choices in terms of softness and sharpness are interesting. The lightposts on either side in the foreground and the skyline on the horizon are all crisp but the center foreground is softly blurred. It's just the opposite of what people usually do and I'm quite liking it. Good luck--it's easy to see why this is a favorite of yours. #4306210Sylvia Rossler May 23, 2007

Everything about this image is wonderful. I can't pick one thing!!!john dunne June 06, 2007
Thank you Lori. The boats are out of focus as I used a 30 second exposure. The camera was set on a tripod. The boats were gently lapping in the water and therefor appeared blurred on the long exposure. This technique works best when yo have a moving object alongside a static object. #4369953Norman P. Late congrats on this well deserved win John!Norm #5249205
