Lens for a Teenage Photographer I am a mom trying to buy a lens for my teenage daughter who has become very interested in photography. She has a Canon Elan II with a 28-80 lens. She says she wants to do more distance photography... like I know what to get. I have been told she should have an 80-200 lens but I find there are all kinds of 80-200 lenses. It seems there are different apertures and other features. What would you recommend for her? She is seriously thinking about continuing photo in college. Thanks for helping a mom in need! Pam

Pam, Canon makes a couple of EOS EF lenses that encompass this zoom range: 80-200mm f/4.5~5.6 II 55-200mm f/4.5~5.6 USM -- John

Being a teenage photographer with almost the same camera (I have the IIe version), I see where she's coming from. You could get her the Canon 80-200mm f/4.5~5.6, which runs $120 on tristatecamera.com, but looking there just now, for just a little bit more, you can get the 75-300mm lens, which will give her another 105mm focal length, and adding only about $45. Or, if you want to spend another $20 (putting it at $185) you could get the 75-300mm USM, which has a quieter autofocus motor. There are plenty of options. Hope this helps.
