Photoshop & Plug-ins Do you need Photoshop CS5 in order to use plug-ins? Or can they be used with the Elements version too? I have just purchased a Mac, now I have to re-invest in all of my software. I was tired of virus's constantly causing issues with every pc I've ever owned. Hoping the Mac will prove worth the extra cost. Time will tell...

You can use plugins with many versions of Photoshop, Elements, Corel, etc etc.. I have an old Photoshop 7 and most plugins work just fine, even when they don't list it as compatible. All the Topaz filters work well with my PS7 and my Elements 9.

Thanks Carolyn for your response, I'm going to opt for the inexpensive version of Photoshop. I just love working with the plug-ins so I really didn't want to lose the ability to use them.

Congratulations Lynn, The best decision I made in 2007 was switching to a MAC because of the same thing - constant software updates and viruses. I couldn't run CS2 and Bridge at the same time without it crashing... It takes a bit of unlearning all the stuff we had to do in windoze as MACs are more intuitive but you will get used to the simple adjustments quickly and breathe a big sigh of relief and even smile when you sit down behind the MAC to do your work. I bought a 24" iMAC and still enjoy sitting behind that screen as much as the day I bought it. I have treid to rationalize getting the 27" BUT I really dont need to as mine is still running great with its modest 4GB RAM :) I was going to pay the fee to Adobe to change my Windows PS-CS2 license and switch it over to MAC but CS3 had just been released so I just bought CS3 for MAC and still have my CS2 PC version (just in case) which I now realize, will never happen. I believe companies like Topaz & HDRSoft will switch you over for free if I remember correctly. Most of the plugin/filter companies are pretty accommodating about this. If you do have to buy, check Deb Sandidge (Gear), Lewis Kemper (Good Stuff) sites/blogs as they have discount codes listed for lots of stuff :)

Great info, Carlton. I know a lot of people didn't want to switch to Mac because of having to buy all their filters again. I'm thinking most people don't know that some filter companies will do it for free.

Thank you so much for all the helpful responses. Carlton such great to know information I will definitely look into the switch over fee's. I'm anxious to sit down and really play with my new MAC, still figuring out how to navigate through it. Hopefully I will have some time over the weekend...this working full-time is really cramping my style, at least it keeps me out of trouble. hahaha! Thanks again everyone!

Just jumping into your conversation here. I got an iMAC for Christmas; I'm excited and also frustrated but I'm finally learning my way around. I never thought to check with Topaz about switching the user license to the Mac. Hmmm. I did download the trial version of Topaz Adjust, and the download was successful, but it doesn't show up in the Elements filters. Still trying! Does anyone know if there is a way to get the Buzz filter? I'm not even sure if it was ever compatible with a mac anyway....

I can't even get the buzz to work on my PC anymore. This latest one won't take it. Bummer. Nobody else's simplify filter even comes close to the buzz.

David, thank you for your kind words, I enjoyed viewing your gallery as well, looks like you might be from the Lone Star state. I'm holding out hope for a good wildflower season this year since last year was such a bust.

Ditto on the wildflowers! I, too, am in Texas and hoping for a good season. I'm just wondering if the wind will ever quit blowing.

Lightroom 3 is on the way out; LR 4 is coming. Now is a great time to get LR 3 for $150 or less. If you shoot RAW and process them, this may be a good bang for the buck.
