Rehearsal: Carbon Fiber Fiddler
Uploaded: November 24, 2012
---
Caught this musician practicing his piece for the Fiddling Competition at Howell Living History Farm last August.
---
He was happy to have me photograph his playing, and even HAPPIER to show me his new carbon fiber (like our tripods) fiddle! I held the instrument in my hands and found it to be NEARLY weightless. But what wonderful sound emanated from it on this veteran musician's shoulder!
---
He told me that he has played with a favorite musical pair, Jay Ungar and Molly Mason (most famous for their haunting rendition of Ashokan Farewell--the Ken Burns Civil War theme.)
---
I'll post a shot of him displaying his fiddle in the discussion area.

Had to start over with this one, when I discovered a BAD mistake in the embedded photo. I had used edit/transform/warp to fix a lens distortion in his face, and then forgot to fix the stitching of the new layer. All done now. Just so you know, I elongated the lower part of his face on a second layer using the warp adjustment (works like a charm) on its own layer. I was so excited with the outcome that I failed to notice that the neck of his tee-shirt had been affected, as well as his ear. Fixed it by erasing the bad stitching. The entire process took about a minute--from start to finish. #10431088John Rivera November 24, 2012
