Laura,You've captured a very beautiful tropical waterlily. I have one similar, but the color of the petals are purple and not the extreme blue that you have captured above. I like your placement and the fact that there are no distracting elements in the background. When you shot this, do you know if you manually set your WB or left it on AWB. I believe this blue is how the camera caught the lily, but it may not be the natural color. This color change happens to me a lot when I shoot certain flowers in different lighting with my DSLR.
If you can shoot this flower again, I would change the aperture to between F8 and/or F11, since this seems to be the best aperture on many lenses to give your flower the best DOF and best clarity too. F4.2 is a bit shallow for shooting close-ups. The closer you shoot to your subject the less DOF you will have.

Laura. What a brilliant blue. This is a really beautiful capture. The comment above was correct when they said that it reallly grabs your attention. I didn't agree with the aperture being bumped over to an f8 at first, but then I thought of it a little more and have come to agree with that one as well. Although I must say that hardly anyone would notice the difference. My advice would be to clone out that brown spot on the bottom right hand side. It detracts from an otherwise perfect background. If I was being really picky I might even say to play around with the green that is under the left bottom leaf. The upper green is a compliment, but this is a little weak. Thanks for posting. It is beautiful. #3496978Kay E. Mahoney November 23, 2006
