Wonderful shot, Lem! When I first looked at it, I thought it was snow, and wondered, "What in the heck is doing, wearing shorts?" Then I read your title, and realized he has every right to be wearing shorts on this sand dune! I love the expanse of land, rolling hills, perspective and scale!

What a great place...I like how you caught him in mid step! #60283

Imagine a sand dune complex 6 miles wide and 7 miles deep, with moving sand piled up to 750 feet above a sand sheet perimeter that is just as large as the dunes themselves. Now imagine the closest body of water where you would normally see dune formations is a thousand miles away! That is the Great Sand Dunes. Located 75 miles Southwest of Pueblo, Colorado at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. One of my favorite camping, hiking and photography spots, anywhere. Nature's beauty at its finest! #60287

I still like it, Lem. We use to camp near Cuchara when the kids were growing up. I do miss the Rockies. #60363

Thank you all. I keep wanting to put more shots of the dunes in the contest, but the ones I really like and have seem to be overlooked. Not this one. Friday's submission is Dune Drifter Reflects (revisted). I hope you like it too. #60488

Nice shot, Lem! I like your composition on this one. So who's the dune dude? I've seen him more than once before. #60496

My close friend and owner of one of the last cattle farms in this area of SW Ohio. We travel in August for vacation together and often (always) end up in Colorado. He toted around his old Minolta 35mm and tolerated my backpack full of digital cameras, as well as my constant nagging about "stop here, stop there, pull over, I have to get a shot of that"! And my getting up before daybreak to hike and shoot photos, which delayed his camp breakfast. #60745

LOL :-) Yea..those photographers can be a real pain in the butt! Then on top of that you have to be on gaurd or they'll even take your picture! Thanks for the background, Lem, it adds to the atmosphere of this photo :-) #60768
