Thanks everyone for your nice comments.I noticed this scene while driving home from a day in the mountains and quickly pulled over.
The storm was actually LEAVING... (I was facing southeast).
The setting sun broke through the heavy clouds behind me and illuminated the foreground. (The light difference was even more profound on the original slide.)
Seconds after this exposure, the sun went back under the canopy of storm clouds and the magic was gone.
