A beautiful job of post processing, Kalena. And an excellent scene as well with splendid composition with the leading lines of the stream, the framing of the trees, and the softness of the water. Well done, indeed. #10866907Kalena Randall October 09, 2013
Thank you, Dale. I do dislike the sun at this time of day, but sometimes that's all that available! lol #10866937Jeff E Jensen October 09, 2013
Oh, good grief, this is FANTASTIC! Nice work. Dale hit all of the high points and I couldn't agree more. #10866941Kalena Randall October 09, 2013
Hey,Dale, I got lucky with the framing of by the trees. Nature did it for me! lol #10867045Elaine Hessler October 09, 2013
WHAT?????Outstanding editing!!! I am so glad you showed the before, so we can see what you did PP. I was going to ask what you did with Nik, but I see you added yellow to make it look more like fall. And then some.
I do the same-I sometimes underexpose. I figure it is easier to salvage an slightly underexposed picture, than one with parts blown out.
Really, really nice job on this-I think this could be a winner:) #10867054

This is such a great Fall colors shot that I was really disappointed to see that that had been created in post-processing! Very nicely seen and done, Kalena. The couple of suggestions I would make before you submit this image to the contest:
-- there are several small vertical branches in the ground clutter at the base of the closest tree. You could clean that area up a bit with cloning
-- there is a branch sticking out of the water at the center of the bottom edge could also be removed #10867202

Beautiful work, Kalena. Stephen has good suggestions for minor clean-up to make it picture-perfect. #10867272Kalena Randall October 10, 2013
Stephen, I'm sorry you're disappointed that it was created in PP. The only thing I changed in PP was the color of the leaves since the color change was minimal at the time and it wouldn't be possible for me to get the shot again since I no longer live in Colorado. Been in Texas for many years now! Lol The rest of the adjustments were the normal things like brightness, contrast, and the like. As far as the contest, I very rarely enter it.I clone out clutter like telephone lines, telephone poles, and other man made eyesores. I try to leave the natural unless it is completely out of place or interferes with the main subject of the photo. The branches are part of the natural look and nature.
Thanks, everyone, for the inputs to my photo. It's the last one for a while. I'm working with the learning curve on a new lens.

Beautifully done. I like how this turned out from where you started and could not agree more with all the positive comments this has garnered. #10867667Stephen Shoff October 10, 2013
Perhaps I should rephrase "disappointed" to "shocked", as in " suddenly surprised". Wasn't at all a criticism of a wonderful picture. Rather, it was an eye-opener for me for recognizing opportunity in photos. #10867762Kalena Randall October 10, 2013
Stephen, no problem. With today's technology we can do may things that couldn't been done so easily with film.I have learned a whole bunch from this group just by reading comments and reviewing the photos that have been posted. It's amazing!
I'm thankful I could take a photo that had limited potential and with just two programs turn it into something. I don't have photoshop, although, I just got PSE 12 and I'm still playing with it a bit.
We all see things in a different way and there's nothing wrong with that! #10867781

Kalena this is a stunning image. I love what you have done. it gives an Indian summer feel to it. I really like how all the shadows on tree trunks were lighten. great job! I am with you I usually shoot tad underexposed also.we are going to the smokies in a couple of week I will have the same problem with the sun. sometimes you have to have the sun up high to get down through the trees. #10867864

Yep-I just can't get over how different the picture looks-it is amazing. When I first joined this group, I had a hangup about modifying pictures (ask Dale). I felt it wasn't right. I am pretty much over that, and am enjoying making my photos look better. I just chalk it up to my sensor's limitations:) #10868035Merna L. Nobile December 13, 2013
