Rose with Bubbles [Photography Contest Flower Photos]
Uploaded: February 21, 2005 03:37:02
f20, 1/250 sec, ISO 3200, window light. A black cloth behind the bowl. There were bubbles rising in the water around the rose - I selectively used levels on this are to turn it more solidly black.

This is a very appealing image! Love it! Would also be great in a diagonal composition with part of the stem showing. Just my thoughts :o) #1122416Corry Berghout February 21, 2005

Corry, congratulations...are you taking Jim's Non-Digital class? I tried this bubble thing and I could not do it...you are an inspiration for me to try it again.... #1203769Corry Berghout March 24, 2005
Thanks Wanda. This was done for Jim's non-digital special effects course. I found I really preferred the look of the flowers when photographed from the side, rather than the top. This is in a round glass bowl with fairly vertical sides. I used a needle & thread to get a loop attached to the short stem, and weighted the flower down with a bunch of teaspoons. It's in club soda, and I let it sit for about 10 minutes to get the bubbles to be more stable. #1204176Wanda Judd March 25, 2005
Thanks so much...I think I'll try it again...I did find it a bit messy, I did not wait. I like the idea of the needle and thread as well...you always were a step ahead... #1206073Lori Carlson March 31, 2005
