You are blessed with beautiful models and photographic talent Monika! A very swwet portrait!! #207518Monika Sapek January 21, 2005
Thanks so much, Murry! It’s just Kate, she is still a cute model (she’s almost five) and I love to take photos of her! After submitting the duotone changed a little bit of the color, but it’s always like that ;-). Glad you like this one, Murry!Jill Flynn January 21, 2005

Wonderful portrait, Monika! #1056144Patrick Campbell January 22, 2005
Lovely portrait, Monika! Her expression and the lighting on her face are just great. Her hair is angelic. The sweater has great texture but is a little too loud and therefore distracting to my eye. I'm sure others would disagree. (Don't you love how subjective photography is?) I wonder if you could do a color selection or perhaps two in Photoshop and then change the colors to something less contrasty when converted to duotone. #1056547Patrick Campbell January 22, 2005
Another approach would be to add a filter layer in PS, or a color layer with low blending of 10% or so. It will look wierd in color but great in B&W. In the prehistoric days, before Photoshop and PCs, they used colored filters to accomplish the same thing in B&W photography. #1056588Monika Sapek January 22, 2005
Amy, Bill, Kip, Roseann, and Karen - Thank you very much for your comments! Usually Kate doesn’t want to pose for me, but that day I “bought” her attention by letting her take a couple of photos of me also. It was fun to be on the other side of the camera and hear her laugh.Patrick – thank you for paying so much attention and your suggestion for this portrait! Usually when I want to take portraits of my kids, I watch for the elements that could possible distract in photos later. This sweater that Kate is wearing here indeed is a little distracting, but I liked it because with it there is more contrast and I like the opposite textures. My first version of this image was in black and white, but for more unknown reasons this image became really dark after submitting to another contest (DPC), so I went with duotone finally.
Usually I do not do anything selectively in my images, but I can check this method with blending option later (I didn’t do anything like that before). It’s good to try something new.
Thank you, Patrick!
P.S. It’s great indeed, photography is subjective! I love that! ;-)

Your welcome, Monika! I was trying to make helpful suggestions of the 'what if you tried this' variety and I'm glad you took it that way! Good luck with this entry. Hope you make a big print to frame at home. I think it's an excellent shot already, and one we'll probably see again next month. :-) #1056725Monika Sapek January 23, 2005
Thanks so much once again, Patrick! I like this picture and it is quite sharp (50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor is very nice for portrait work), so I'll make a print.Claudia Kuhn February 18, 2005
