I have not posted a Polar Bear capture for a while. Taken in the wild on Hudson Bay, Cape Churchill, Manitoba on 11/25/2006 at 105mm, F/7.1, 1/250 sec, ISO 100 and +1ev.
He got up close and personal for a portrait.

If you had not guessed I focused on the nose instead of the eyes for a purpose. These magnificent animals can smell food (seals, etc) from 60 miles away. Their nose has evolved such that they breath (smell) in from the front but notice they have a place to exhale from the side that prevents contamination of the front sensors. Evolution for survival in the harsh environment of the tundra and polar ice where food is scarce. #1467912David Phalen June 08, 2012
