Traversing The Lemaire Channel [Photography Contest Travel Photography & Place]
Uploaded: May 27, 2012 02:14:56
The Lemaire Channel, in the Antarctic Peninsula, is a visual paradise with peaks rising 2-3000 feet above sea level and 200 foot glacial facades lining the strait. Here a small cruise ship takes a risk and carefully navigates the Channel's floating ice hazzards.

Beautiful scene. The ship does look small next to the amazing landscape. #1465524Jack Gaskin May 27, 2012

Morning Jack. I was traveling on another ship, an ice hardened Russian ship well suited to this environment. The tourist ships that visit these parts coordinate their itineraries such that they rarely encounter each other. DSB #10155732Cathy Barrows June 18, 2012
