Tucked away among my childhood memories is a recollection that around Memorial Day, my dad never failed to stop and buy an artificial red poppy or two from members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. They'd stand on street corners and outside stores selling them to raise money to help disabled and hospitalized veterans. So on this day of remembering, here's to the wonderful veterans to whom we owe so much.

When I was in the fourth grade I won a poster contest for memorial I believe it was three crosses surrounded by poppies. Poppies always make me think of the poem Fields OF Flanders.Ann H. Belus May 28, 2012
