HAVE A SPLENDID DAY!!!
During a recent visit with my sister and brother-in-law in the town of Winfield Ks. While we drove around this beautiful little city, located in the south central part of the state, we sought out this beautiful, historical home. It is known to the locals as The Hackney House. It was built in 1880 by the Rev. N.L. Rigby, pastor of the First Baptist Church, the house was purchased in 1885 by local attorney, W.P. Hackney, who transformed the house by adding Victorian porches on the front and side, dormers to the third story roofline and other ornate features. Hackney was a prominent resident in Winfield’s early history and important in the town’s development. He served as a member of the Kansas House of Representatives and later as a state senator, as well as Winfield mayor. This beautiful home is now proudly owned by Gary and Mary Brewer and they graciously consented to open their home for evening tours.
