Magic One Morning
Uploaded: March 02, 2007 11:52:56
Taken just after dawn at Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This is a resubmit, after reworking, of one of the first images I uploaded to BetterPhoto and a long time favorite. I reworked it after some excellent suggestions by a BP friend. Thank you, Steve.

The softness of this image really draws me in! Excellent lighting colors and composition!! LOVELY work Mitch!!Melissa G. Meiselman March 02, 2007
Mitch, this is an exquisite scene with a wonderful sense of perspective both from the fence and the softening of detail!!! #4015578Mitch Spence March 02, 2007
Jeana and Melissa, thank you both very much. You might be interested to know that one of the changes I made, based on a suggestion, was to flip it. And I did. And it made a bigger difference than I would have first thought. It's the leading lines of the fence now coming in from the left instead of the right. #4015640Laurie Daily March 02, 2007
I didn't see the first image, but this is exceptional, Mitch. I do agree with lead lines coming in from the left as opposed to right. There are times when I do a flip, and left just seems to work better for my eye, anyway. I love everything about this...beautiful soft colors and you hit it right on with lighting. #4015678Mitch Spence March 02, 2007
Laurie, thanks a lot. I think sometimes we get so taken, or at least I do, with what we've done initially that we don't consider other possibilities, and I keep trying to remind myself of all that. #4015701Kathy Radford March 02, 2007
I love this stunning shot. Wonderful lighting and composition. Kathy in NH #4015710RD . March 02, 2007

You are all wonderful for leaving such great comments--Kathy, Richard, Pat, and Billy. Man, Pat, I love "Gob Smacked." Billy, I'll check out your Cades Cove shots for sure. And oh dear, I just realized I misspelled "Smoky." Smokey, however, is as in Smokey Bear. Ah, well. #4016184Kay E. Mahoney March 02, 2007

This is beautiful, Mitch. And thank you for sharing about flipping the image. I can mentally imagine it the other way and the difference is amazing. Reading comments such as this is one of the great things about participating in BP discussions. #4017479Mitch Spence March 03, 2007

It was, indeed, a some kind of gorgeous morning. I am most definitely not a morning person, so I think I was rather impressed with myself that I was out there that early and actually able to see the camera buttons. :) Thanks, John. #4034904Susie Peek-Swint March 08, 2007
I love the colours and comp in this shot Mitch ~ the varying layers of mist add a lovely early morning feel ~ great shot! #4035211Mitch Spence March 08, 2007

Very beautiful image and it has such a serene, peaceful feel. I used to live 45 min from Sevierville so I know the area well. I love Cades Cove and wish I lived nearby now to capture some of the beauty! Even though I didn't see the original, I like the fence coming in on the left. Love the fog and lighting too. And funny about not being a morning person; neither am I so I know what you mean! And congrats on your finalist! #4233461Mitch Spence May 01, 2007
Thanks a lot, Carol. Yes, what we do for photography, huh? Even to the point of getting grumpily up in the dark. #4236147Susan Jane Allen May 06, 2007

This is absolutely fabulous Mitch! I don't know how I missed it the first time through your gallery! I would hang this on my wall ... a beautiful morning full of fabulous details. I mean, WOW Mitch, this is truly spectacular work! #4925229Mitch Spence October 15, 2007
Crystal, thank you so much. I kind of had stuff spread out before I did a little rearranging of the gallery. I haven't printed this one for myself, but my son wants one printed (I was flattered by that), so that's on my agenda. :) #4929042Daniella Puente December 29, 2007
