THE MAKING OF 'The Puzzler #2':It was Boxing Day and a few Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club friends and I met up for coffee, lunch and chat after a lovely Christmas Day.
The gentleman exercising his brain muscles had been there long before we arrived and was totally engrossed in the puzzle. At times he struck this 'thinking pose' and I was determined to catch him in the act. Not as easy as it sounds.
One of us struck up a conversation with the man and it appears he was not only a dedicated crossword puzzler but also a conversationalist as he talked and talked and talked for quite a while. I was on my second mug of coffee before he went back to the puzzle and I was able to make this shot.
We were out on a balcony under cover and the day was very grey but the natural light was just perfect for this candid.
Enjoy!

Patience is one of the must haves for a good photographer especially in photojournalism where you cant just walk up and pose your subject. This image is about as good as it gets. Sharp..composition..and most of all it has story telling quality. Very nicely done Dennis!!!!! #9183093Carla Capra Anderson January 21, 2011
As always, Dennis, you have presented a wonderful image that allows the viewer to imagine what the man is thinking/doing. Your b/w are very color correct, to my eye. The position of the mans arms, head, neck and back create a wonderful leading line for my eyes to follow. Keeping me contained and in the image.Chris N. Sweet January 21, 2011
This is a great image, what I personally like best about it is the exposure, more to the point the fact that you stopped down by 1 1/3 of a stop, making a conscious decision on what you wanted to achieve, and in my opinion you got it spot on. Super. #9184138Dennis Gay January 21, 2011
