War and Peace

07/17/10, Kansas City, KS, USA. This was one mad cardinal. But truth be told, he had exercised admirable restraint for quite some time while this dove lorded over the goodies. Then, suddenly, he went ballistic. Not that the dove was in the slightest bit fazed!

Thanks y'all! I did have a devil of a time editing this. Must have started over four or five times because the noise in the background was horrendous and every time I'd succeed in getting it out, it would leave horrible banding. In one try, I even cloned the nasty parts out from a relatively clear section of about 3 sq millimeters, but then it took all the depth out of the background and it looked like the figures were pasted in and had to throw that away. Anyway, finally got the noise and banding out, but now it's a bit splotchy. Still no idea why there was so much banding, while there was no problem with others taken at the same time. Would have thrown most any other pic away, but really, really wanted to keep this action! #9040145Jeff Robinson November 16, 2010
Outstanding work Susan - Congrats on your Finalist this month!! Jeff #9040670Bunny Snow November 21, 2010
Wonderful capture and perfect timing.I often see the doves moving in and taking over even though the cardinals, being perfect gentle birds had waited patiently for their turn. Doves seem to behave like humans who save places for 15 others taking up a whole area of an eating place, and won't let anyone else in. Then, they have a feeding frenzy until everything is gone.
I have empathy for the gentle cardinals. He deserves to be angry.
You did a wonderful job capturing the story. Congratulations on your finalist and this outstanding work!!!!! #9055155
