Park Avenue [Contest Finalists August 2010]

That's what "they" call this part of Arches National Park in Utah. Flipping through the channels I saw this very scene in an old werstern movie, and called to my wife, "Hey, there's The Engineer and Train." That's the name I gave to that rock formation to the right. Don't know if you'll see what I mean without a pointer, but...

This is terrific Marty, did you walk the Ave. Interesting is that the monolith in the center with the wall to the left once was an arch which has fallen long ago. #1297388Jack Ryan August 12, 2010

Beautifully capture,Marty.Love how you capture the difference in light, blues sky and textures and shadows, giving a beautiful feeling of place.Visions and names are diferent for everyony, what realy matters is what the feelings that scene gave us when present and the capture of the place we made.Denny E. Beautiful, Marty! Love it!! Gorgeous image, very beautifully captured!! Did you happen to look down at the foot prints you are standing in, they're mine..LOL..I have this exact same shot. Funny how many times I see images and think, I've been there and shot that too. #8822811Tammy M. Anderson August 12, 2010

Thanks for the vision and the great composition Marty :-) #8823967frank w. degenhardt August 13, 2010
Marty- What I love about these rock formations is that each one is unique and a one of a kind. Never to identical and that makes it special. Love the use of both beautiful lighting and shadow at the same time. The depth of the picture is awesome and your composition gives us such a grand view of the beauty of this place. I am a big fan of what I call earthtone colors especially when they are contrasted with such a gorgeous blue sky. A wonder of nature so well preserved with high quality camera work my friend.Val Feldman August 13, 2010
I'm stymied...I sure see the train but where in the heck is that engineer?? Regardless, my friend, a spectacular capture - your f/14 provided us with a view of miles and miles worth of magnificent scenery! #8824934Merna L. Nobile September 15, 2010
