In the familyTenthredinidae, Sawfly Larvae often exhibit ritual "dance moves" while feeding upon the leaves of their preferred host tree.
Exactly why these tiny critters twist and wriggle about in apparent congruous harmony remains a mystery to me.

Thanks everyone!Many species of sawfly larvae mimic butterfly and moth caterpillars in shape and design. (..not sure why.)
Their habits and life cycles are quite different though and equally as fascinating.
