I really like the feel of this image, great color and a great composition #1478114Paul R. Nelson July 31, 2012
Thank you, Art. I was just starting to set up my camera, anticipating capturing the sunset after the sun went down, when I saw this kayaker coming and had to quickly change the settings so I could stop his movement. I was fortunate it came together so well. #10256764Arthur Bohlmann July 31, 2012
Looks like you were fast enough, you nailed this beauty. #10256767Susan Williams July 31, 2012
I am experiencing the poverty of words -- this is so incredibly beautiful. #10256771Paul R. Nelson July 31, 2012
Thanks, Art. The downside is that at the time I was setting up my tripod on a pile of rocks on a bank and trying to balance there at the same time (what about this makes sense?) when my camera bag slipped and my 100-400 fell out and landed down the slope on a rock and... Long story short, 2 weeks and $400 later it is back as good as new.Thank you, Susan. This is one of the reasons I feel so Blessed to be living up here. #10256805

And it truly is a blessing. I grew up in Menominee, MI/Marinette, WI (twin cities). Every season has it's glory. In due time, I will retire and go home.So sorry about your lens. :(
Am reading it right -- you took this with an "L"? #10256828

And when you do you will appreciate it even more. Northern Wisconsin and the U.P. are very similar, and many people leave here with a rubber band attached; they often come home again eventually. In some ways what happened to my lens was a good thing; they cleaned out some dust that had accumulated, and the repair seems to have eliminated a minor focus problem I had.
Yes, you are correct. #10256848

Amazing. I have a friend who was shooting a concert and dropped his new L from a platform to the concrete below. He was completely devastated. A few weeks later, it was back on his camera. Awesome lens. #10256889Paul R. Nelson July 31, 2012
That would hurt and I can understand why he would feel devastated. It also speaks to Canon's repair facility. #10256899David Resnikoff August 01, 2012

Paul, Love the feel, the colors, and the depth in the clouds in the image. Another great capture.Sorry to hear about your lens - it is a great lens though, glad they were able to make it better then new. #10260434

Thank you, David. I wasn't feeling all that inspired with this scene before the kayak came along, but knew that would add an interesting element and got ready quick.Thank you, Howard. This image turned out better than I initially expected. I've done a little more testing with my lens, and it appears it is focusing better than before the accident; maybe it was out of spec from the start, or got knocked while I had it, but it does seem better than ever. #10260489

Gotta love technology... #10260497Kalena Randall August 04, 2012
Very nice. Sunsets for me need lots of work. They are not my best! Oh, well! I've got lots of time to learn and many beautiful photos to review! #10262992Paul R. Nelson August 05, 2012
Thank you, Kalena. I think we each have subjects that are harder to photograph than others. One thing about sunsets; they happen everyday at a predictable time, so it is easier to practice capturing them than some other things. #10264064Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
