Gore Point Gathering Point [Contest Finalists July 2010]

As described in a previous photo, the seiner is pulling the net in a large hook shaped formation to trap the salmon as they pass through. The guy in the skif and the girl on the bow of the seiner are plunging. The plunger is simply a big cup on the end of a long pole (essentially like a bathroom plunger) that makes a very loud popping sound when you slam it into the water. It scares the salmon and keeps them from swimming around the boats to get out of the net.

Jeff, Tarun; Thank you for the positive feedback. I appreciate you taking the time to comment.Carolyn; It's always good to hear from you! Glad you stopped by my gallery :-) I paid my way through my first year of college by working on a "seiner" just like this one so I'm quite familiar with how they work. I'm glad I was able to introduce something new to your life! Hope you have lots of great photo opportunities this year! -- Gary #8771933
