This is really cool Jim! This technique makes for a really great image - I like the isolation of color in just the gas pump and grass! Great scene, too!Cathy :) #38776

Thanks very much, Cathy. This was shot in Snoqualmie Valley, Washington. Near the town of North Bend (where they filmed Twin Peaks, the TV series). The valley is very idyllic and full of these kinds of scenes. Thanks again! #38892

Cool - I remember Twin Peaks, Jim! I've heard of Snoqualmie Valley (we get some of the Seattle t.v. stations here). It sounds like an interesting place!Cathy :) #38938

Jim, this is one of my favorite digital effects (spot color) and you use it very well in this image. #4544969Regards

Nice photo! In photos like this, what I typically like to do is add a layer, convert to black & white, add a mask, then 'brush in' the parts I want in B&W. #5036281

I use layers as well - it's more helpful than eraser or history brush because it's easier to correct mistakes you might have made along the way but not noticed until later! #5173830Anna Lomas December 05, 2007
Sorry - I meant to say masks, not layers. D'oh! #5173908Tamera S. Phillips January 23, 2008
Was this taken in Roslyn Jim? A great find and I like the effects shared. #5384433Jim Miotke My Courses February 10, 2008
Thank you all for your comments! Tamera, I did shoot in Roslyn a lot around this time but, if memory serves, I captured this in Fall City. Great discussion on these selective color techniques - thanks again for your comments! #5476210Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
