Robert, Thanks for the Compliment on my photo.I also looked up the properties of Reflection and Refraction and it states in the article that a Refracted beam vanishes at a large enough angle resulting in (internal reflection). I'm not sure if I understood the article properly since it was a bunch of science lingo. It's at this address if your interested, http://www.phy.ntnu.edu.tw/java/light/flashLight.html.
I don't know much about the science of light waves, but like you say it's a poetic license. It just wouldn't sound the same named American Flag Refracted lol. :).
