Flannel Flower. [Contest Finalists November 2009]
Uploaded: November 04, 2009 10:58:09
Actinotus helianthi.
I came across this very tall Flannel Flower on my way to the pelican feeding the other day. It is the biggest plant I have ever seen, and I was fortunate to catch the start of the flowering season, as there were about 25% of the flowers still in bud.
Captured in RAW, 1/320th f11.0 and ISO-100.
Exif: F Number: 10, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 1/320 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 100, FocalLength: 43.00 mm, Model: E-300

Hey, John - this is an outstanding capture of these gorgeous Flannel Flowers...with wonderful light, point of view, tones, textures and composition!! :o)It's interesting to note that what we consider the petals of these flowers are actually bracts ("a modified leaf or leaflike part just below and protecting an inflorescence" - WordWeb) which surround the flower!! ;o)
