AUGUST 2009 FINALIST
8/05/09 ~ EFP ~ Flowers
This is the actual color of this hibiscus, it is the brightest yellow I've ever seen. I captured this image on the island of Maui where there is always a sweet fragrance of flowers in the air. Notice God's detailed handiwork on the five stigmas... each dot has a black outline.
I think that is amazing!!!

Thank you so much, Symona. The hibiscus flower is so beautiful and it blows me away each time I look at the colors & detail of each flower. I don't know if I had all my comments added before you commented, so I want to point out the black outline around each stigma. I find that totally amazing !!! Wow, Sharon, this is an incredible Hibiscus. I've only tried them a couple of times (once out in the parking lot) and they've always been red ones. This yellow really makes the shot. Incredible color, composition, and successful managment of the depth of field. Just wonderful.

Thank you, Terrie.I think this photo is a God thing because I'm not that good a photographer. I love this flower so much I think He helped me out big time. LOL
You can image how I spent my time on Maui..taking photos of hibiscus flowers. Out of say fifty I have maybe 5 that I really like. Didn't now then what I know now and now I have a better camera. Most of them were over saturated as it's always sunny there. Tough price to pay for a good photo, eh?!? LOL. I have one yellow hibiscus to upload one day and I may ask you if you know if it is the island or state flower. I know it is pure yellow but that's it. I've got you down as one of my favourites now so I can keep in touch with you with Maui uploads and I will watch for yours. I have a shot from the canoe club just down from Sugar Beach but I'm a little nervous about entering it when the competition is sooooooooooo good. Don't want to look too silly. LOL.
Thanks again, Sharon #6099022

According to 50states.com:Pua Aloalo
Hibiscus brackenridgei
The hibiscus, all colors and varieties, was the official Territorial Flower, adopted in the early 1920s. At statehood in 1959, the first state legislature adopted many of Hawaii's symbols as part of the Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS, state laws). It wasn't until 1988, however, that the yellow hibiscus which is native to the islands was selected to represent Hawaii. For this reason, you will see many older photos and postcards with the red hibiscus, or any other color for that matter, as the state flower. These weren't incorrect at the time.

The image they show, though, doesn't hold a candle to yours.
