This is very nice, Michael. I love the textures and the colors and the swerving lines of whatever those little arm-like things are. And the title is perfect. They do look like they are dancing. #1108055Esther R. Tinz April 03, 2009
Perfect Title! Well captured and composed. #7366473Jeanine M. Bailey April 03, 2009
Beautiful DOF!!:) Love all the details!! #7367273Vicki Snow April 03, 2009
First of all..WOW!!!!!!!!!!! The clarity is just phenominal. Which made me read about the camera you use. Are you kidding me???? 21.1 megapixel..holy smokes.Michael Kelly April 03, 2009
Thank you all very much for the generous comments on this photo. I appreciate them very much. Vicki, I got my 5D in December and it is impressive, but the files are almost to big for my computer to handle. I still shoot with my 40D, but the full frame sensor and the 21 meg resolution of the 5D make it my choice for most shots. #7367894Michael Kelly April 03, 2009
Anthony, thank you for your comment, also. I could see it from the link when you posted it, but don't know why it did not show up under the photo discussion.Jodi M. Walsh April 03, 2009
i love the lighting in this. I can almost feel the warm sun- which is nice since it's been raining and cold all day. :-)and i'm jealous of your camera ;-) a 5D is way beyond me but i'm hoping to be able to upgrade to a 50D by the end of this year but it's so hard to be patient. #7368289

Thanks Jodi! Don't be to jealous, believe me I can take really bad shots with it just like I can with my other cameras. The 50D has some very impressive stats (much better than my 40D wich I still love) so it should be a great camera for you.Mike #7368315

The title is a perfect way to bring these dried out plants to life. Now I can almost see them dancing! Wonderful clarity and the light is beautiful as well! I'm just reading the above comments and 21 MP....my computer would have a hard drive attack! I'm sure the full frame sensor makes it worth it though. I just recently went from 6MP to 12MP and noticed a huge difference in my ability to crop and get a crisp picture, but in all honesty I could get a very nice crisp picture with my D40 too which makes it an awesome starter DSLR! For this shot I love the DOF and most of the background works well for me, but that one stalk of (grass, weed, what have you) on the left is a tad bothersome to me. I think because it is too straight. You know what they say about straightness in nature. Also do you do much with monotone? I could see this in black and white. :~) #7368365Michael Kelly April 03, 2009
Thanks for the great comments and feedback Aimee. Yes, I agree with you on the background piece on the left. I discussed this on the phone with a friend just after I posted the shot and I pointed it out as a potential flaw. I could clone it out but am a little afraid that I would make things look to unnatural. I did look at this one as a B&W, but it did not look that good to me. I think the warm tones add so much that the B&W takes away is why. I don't do a lot of monotone as a rule. When I stepped from B&W to color in my wet darkroom days I never went back. #7368497Ellen H. Michael, I love this shot! I have always loved thistles :) Your title is perfect for the image! I think it was a good choice to keep the color - I like the warmness of the shot. And I am not bothered by that stalk... I think it is a good continuation of the other ones on the lower right part of the image...sort of gives an idea of movement, which continues along with the dancing idea! #7371317Dale Hardin April 04, 2009
Michael, so nice to be introduced to your work. This is excellent. Lovely detail and coloring. The lighting is superb as well as the use of DOF. I'd welcome a shot like this to my portfolio any day. Love it.Michael Kelly April 05, 2009

This is a great image, and I love the title. I always like the dead flowers, they're more interesting than ones at their peak for me, and they seem to be frozen in motion. ~April #7491747Michael Kelly May 06, 2009

Looks like I started off with this thread a while ago, before it was famous! I love the warmth in this rendition of a very simple thistle. There is so much beauty in the ordinary and you really know how to bring that out in your subjects. #7561711Esther R. Tinz May 26, 2009
