Rainy Days and Mon(k)days Always Get Me Down. [Contest Winner Picks February 2004]
Uploaded: February 10, 2004 16:15:03
Every morning at 6am, the buddhist monks of Luang Phrabang, Laos make the rounds of their town, collecting donations of rice in their bowls to feed them the rest of the day.

I love the color contrast between the poor background and the 2 strong subjets of interest. Great moment captured and the blur adds to the motion in the picture, on purpose? Great shot. #96865Jason N. Kantner February 12, 2004
Very nice color contrast and effect of motion. Well done. #373716Nancy Grace Chen March 19, 2004
Love this photo. The blur works well to show the background, and I love the use of color as well. At first I thought this was a selective desaturation. #434039Susana Matos March 19, 2004

I like the photo, but I have trouble with the motion. I guess it seems unintentional to me, making it tough to call a finalist. Just my opinion. No offense. I enjoy the rest of your album. #440989Gabriela Cunha March 23, 2004

I've looked at this image many times in the past month or so. It's displayed a lot! Sorry, but it's OOF, without sufficient evidence of purposeful motion blur. Congratulations on your first place win! #491484Garvin T. Snell April 23, 2004
Richard,Thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure what "OOF" is, but I think I get the general idea. You are right in the sense that it was not my intention upon setting out that morning to experiment with motion, because I was not sure what the exact conditions, subjects, and circumstances would be ... I was going with an open mind. But, after taking the first few shots, I realized that focusing on the color, while at the same time expressing the motion, was the best way to go. To back up this, I have included another couple of shots from that day. If more evidence is needed, please ask.
