The Purple Chain:
This photograph focuses on a purple chain which is pulled tight giving a sense that something would give-way if the chain broke or came undone somehow. This chain represents strength and tension.
The color red can represent anger but purple is calming; consequently, the strength of this chain could be construed as a never-failing, consistent work horse.
Formally, there is a pattern of links which together comprise the purple chain. Without the repetitive link pattern, there would be no chain. The straight linear appearance of the chain conjures the feelings of strength and tension originally described.
The blurred background shapes also lends itself to formal interpretation. There is enough information to recognize that there are other machined parts where a chain might be found. Though the scene does not reveal itself completely, it does reveal that we are dealing with some type of machinery.
