The birds were playing in the receding tide flows as the sun dropped behind the mountains for the last time on this beautiful winter day.

Magnificent vista, Gary. Well done. #340700Gary H. Minish January 19, 2004
Ronald; Thank you :-) You should visit Alaska too. You are very adept at capturing unique & difficult lighting and we have plenty of that up here.Ron; I highly recommend going directly to saving dollars. This is unfortunately a very expensive place to visit :-) #340713

Gary, I have run out of superlatives to comment on your images, so I'll have to start from the beginning, please excuse the repetition! Absolutely breathtaking, an extravaganza (RoB lent me that word today!) of lovely light, subtle color, and far-flung space, artistically rendered!! #340761Evy Johansen January 19, 2004

Greg, Carol, Evy, Douglas, Kathy, Theresa, Carolyn & Freddy; I sincerely appreciate your kind and encouraging words :-) The good news is that I've already sold one print of this. The bad news is that I'm paying for it. Kayla (my Wife) was looking over my shoulder when I finished stitching it and made it very clear that the first print of this (as large as possible) WILL be hanging on the main wall of the living room :-) #345594Jean Papo February 14, 2004

Congratulations, my favorite photographer!!Gary H. Minish February 18, 2004
Why thank you, Su!Gary H. Minish April 08, 2004
Thank you very much, David! The most important aspect of shooting snow scenes is preventing overexposure which destroys the subtle shadows that give it texture and shape. Since you can never recover blown out areas, I always shoot in manual and spot meter on the brightest snow in the scene. I lighten it one stop more than my Sony camera suggests and then deal with the shadows afterwards in software. As for shooting falling snow, the most important thing is to find a dark or at least textured background or you won't be able to see many of the individual flakes. Then it's just a matter of a playing with the shutter speed to freeze frame the flakes or to blur them, depending on the effect you want. Hope that helps. #469378Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
