Cool! This looks like goldust :) Love it, Sherrybear!! ZING! #939229Mary E. Lake June 10, 2008
WOW, this is really interesting, I agree with Ulysses, it DOES resemble goldust!! :-) #6042754Sherry McClead June 10, 2008
Thanks again Ulysses it is always wonderful to hear from you.Sherrybear :} #6042757

Hello Mary... welcome. Thanks for the input... maybe a name change is in order...Sherrybear :} #6042868
Aimee C. Eisaman June 10, 2008
Yes....Gold Dust would be a wonderful name for this! I love how it looks like it just instantly turned into powder...poof....reminds me of fireworks in a way. I do wish it were brighter though. Beautiful work Sherry! #6042939Sherry McClead June 10, 2008
Yes Aimee, I agree on the darkness... original is lighter but you can see the house faintly in the background. Went back and cloned out the background instead. Working on it now...Sherrybear :} #6043027
Aimee C. Eisaman June 10, 2008
Did you try messing around with the contrast instead....that would brighten the flower and hopefully make the background fade away....it is worth a try! #6043040Sherry McClead June 10, 2008
What do you think? #6043090Aimee C. Eisaman June 10, 2008
Honestly I'm having trouble telling the difference between the two Sherry. What did you change? #6043307Dale Hardin June 10, 2008
What a nice surprise. Looked at the thumbnail and though I liked the comp I was prepared to offer a neutral critique because it was so dark. Then I opened it and saw the processing you had done.Wonderful filter and "gold dust" certainly would fit it to a T. Agree with Aimee (this is getting to be a habit) and would like to see it lightened even more that the second entry. Very beautiful. Dale #6043318
Sherry McClead June 10, 2008
Thank you so much Dale... this is the first time I tried taking pictures of the flowers at night... Lord knows what the neighbors and passers-by thought. Wanted to get the black background.Sherrybear :} #6043371
Graham Robards June 10, 2008
I love it, I don't mind the dark, the second one is nicer though. Tis is the look you wanted to present I guess and the dark and the flower certainly do contrast. "Gold Dust" fits the shot better I think lol.I love the sparkles. Well done, the crop, the compositition is very very good. I love the petals, what work did you do there? !Pat #6043748
Jodi M. Walsh June 10, 2008
i agree- I like the lighter version. never thought of taking pictures of my flowers in the dark. I might need to do some experimenting. :-)just love the sparkles in this. #6043937
Sherry McClead June 10, 2008
Thanks Pat... the effect is called Pixel explosion I think. I got the idea for taking the pics at night from another BP member... she takes hers in a dark room. #6043976Joan E. Hoffman June 10, 2008
Sure, arrive late and everyone has already said what I would have had I been there first LOL! But congratulations on this wonderful shimmering flower! I too like the lighter version, but both are very striking #6044184Sherry McClead June 10, 2008
Thanks a bunch Joan.... you are never to late my darlin...Sherrybear :} #6045046
Brian Smyer June 10, 2008
I love it! I wonder if this would just pop right off the page with a little level adj? Maybe maybe brighten the brights and darken the darks just a tad. I like the fx, texture and dark bg. #6045386M.Christine Duncan June 10, 2008
Sherry, this is very unique and has a great energy... love the gold dust effect! It could be brightened a tad but the photo is really wonderful... great job! #6045394Sherry McClead June 10, 2008
Thanks for the visit Brian and Christine... think I will play with this one somemore... did one in sheetmetal... pretty wild... I will try to lighten it up some... maybe even alot...Sherrybear :} #6045428

Well, I am no more a genius than all of the above, and honestly, I don't even know if I have the right to discuss with ya'll, but in my personal (noobly) opinion, the darker one is better because it gives me a feeling that I just saw a gold dust in flower form in the middle of the night. I think, naturally, the gold dust wouldn't outright shine in the dark, unless you put some light on it. I saw the lighter version and it just came to me as gold dust on a black background. If you know what I mean :)But then again, these guys know better and they surely are the ones you should listen to. I am just trying to voice out my unsolicited opinion. lol
One thing is for sure, Sherrybear, you found a gem in this and I can see an EP coming your way.

Thank you so much Ulysees... I like them both... the first one was darken on the computer and the second wasn't... not mush of a difference but a little... I like them both. You have just as much right to comment as anyone else... aren't we just trying to share our worlds with others... is the technicals any more important than how a photo makes you feel... if it brings you joy... what does it matter if the focus is perfect or the light is from the right direction.

I liked the dark background too so you aren't by yourself Ulysses. I'd already stated I did further up the page.We were commenting on the photo because we belong to a club here and Sherry put this shot in for critiquing. ~Pat #6047053

Oh no, never Graham stabbing me in the back, lol. I am drinking a hot chocolate now.I'm pleased really Sherry as I gave the person the flick so it allows me more time to do what I like to do - and that is photography. Bye for now! ~Pat #6136679

Sherry, I had to stop by your gallery to see your finalist. I love it. The first is always so exciting to get. I'm sure this will be the first of many. Great effects here. #6227412Sherry McClead July 24, 2008

It took me close to half a year in BP before I got my first finalist and it was a class assignment where we experimented with motion and I did it on my backyard tree. Named it "Oh a Tree in Motion". That was in the days when we didn't get EP's. But they come few and far between for me, believe me. There was one person this month that got eight or nine finalists and they were all amazing and well deserving of the honors. There is some incredibly tough competition out there so when you get a finalist it really is a big deal.Sherry McClead July 25, 2008
There is so much talent here that is just boggles the mind... and our photo compete with those of pros. I guess I am still in shock that they chose one of mine.Sherrrybear :} #6228552
Debbie E. Payne July 25, 2008
It's rare for us newbies to get into the competition, say in the landscape competition. Most of those people, I suspect, are mostly pros. #6228992Maria Zammit August 29, 2008
Beautiful abstract... huge congratulations on your finalist Sherry! #6385949Sherry McClead August 29, 2008
